Doctor of Leadership in Martial Arts

The goal of the Doctor of Leadership program is to provide active practitioners with a flexible approach for the advanced study of issues associated with leading and being a leader. The program is designed to address the critical dimensions of effective leadership and coaching at an advanced level. The program provides a platform that enables the participant to develop as effective leaders and coaches by examining their personal skills, beliefs and value-sets as they relate to those with whom they interact. Participants will develop insight and skills to mature into more effective leaders and managers. Individuals entering this program have the intention of building upon their significant practical experience and taking that experience to the next level. The degree is appropriate for mid-to-senior level practitioners who have a minimum of 5 year experience in leadership role.

Practical Application

The Doctor of Leadership focuses uniquely on acquisition of practical knowledge applied to existing practice to develop potent solutions to real world challenges.

Learning Methodology

The program employs a blended learning methodology that includes one-to-one coaching, practical workplace application, applied leadership, scholarship and individual reflection. Success in the program is defined as higher performance as a leader and coach in the real world of the participant’s existing domain. The program covers material considered to be essential to applied leadership and coaching. Contemporary themes covered include: Ethics & Social Responsibility, Leadership, Change, Sustainability, Congruency, Personal Psychology, Innovation and Spirituality. The program is uniquely designed for the working professional who wishes to immediately apply the knowledge of the program back to their working environment. The program includes the following components:

Courses & Modules

The program consist of 6 courses and a manuscript totalling 180 ECTS credits-European Credit Transfer System. Courses are complete individually in sequence.

Year – 1

  • Social Issues In Management
  • Authentic Leadership
  • Leadership of the Self
  • Spirituality & Coaching
  • Theories of Counseling

Year – 2

  • Group Dynamics
  • Mixed Research Methods
  • Research Proposal Perfecting Module

Year – 3

  • Manuscript Writing & Perfecting

Doctoral Manuscript

Participants demonstrate their mastery of critical thinking by producing actionable outcomes on a selected leadership & coaching problem. The final manuscript is typically 100 to 125 pages in length.

Assessment

The assessment within the Doctor of Leadership program is based on both submitted assignments within the courses and the quality of the final study manuscript as presented to the committee. There are no exams in the program.

Doctor of Leadership Program Specifics

Student completing the Master of Leadership & Coaching may matriculate into the Doctor of Leadership program at Martial Arts University Grant Commission (MAUGC).

Admissions

Martial Arts University Grant Commission focuses on providing academic programs to practicing martial artists. Thus, in order to be eligible to register in programs offered by the university one must be actively practicing. Proof of status within your own martial art may be requested of the University.

The University provides separate pathways to students who may not hold academic university degrees by providing equivalency and matriculation based on martial arts standing and the completion of supplemental technical material/workshops.

In order to be considered eligible for a program on offer applicants should submit the online application form along with a professional resume for consideration by the Administration. Once submitted the Administration will make an assessment of the eligibility of the applicant.
